Unannounced survival game in progress

Hello!

I wanted to make a post that captures my devlog progress so far on my upcoming unannounced survival game.  So here we go!

I first started making this game because I wanted to upgrade all my projects to the latest engine version. I had this old "Rust clone" project that wasn't functional anymore, so I thought it would be a fun idea to recreate it again. It wasn't terribly complicated what I had done so far, just combining a handful of asset packs. With endless random world generation, some FPS functionality, and building functionality, we we're at least in the same genre as Rust but not really close to a clone yet.

By the time I got to Week 2 of working on this project, I no longer felt like I was going to attempt to make a Rust clone. At this point I had added the Synty Poly-City asset pack. I just wanted one solid art design, as that has really hindered my progress in the past, and using low poly models would be helpful for the random endless generation I had going on. I knew this asset pack wasn't unique, I've seen a handful of indie games using these in the past, but I am not an artist so it will have to do. Once I saw the swarm of regular civilians coming at me with the walk of a zombie, it clicked for me what this game will be...

And at this point I can show a very rough idea of what my survival game will be, there's still some mechanics I didn't record yet. But the general idea is this:

You start broke, hungry, no home like a typical survival game. Find food, money, weapons throughout the city. Throw objects to break props in the city, towns, and in civilians homes to get building resources (wood, stone, metal). Civilians are bumping around and chasing after you like zombies. Security guards you can stealth by, or attack with guns and melee. Wanted system of growing police threat when you fight back. Physical interactions with a lot of the world - doors and windows that might slow you down when trying to escape. Goal of building a home of your own to live in. Permadeath and basic stacking powers like double jump, increase speed, melee damage, etc. - So like every indie it's a Roguelike haha.

Later on I'm hoping to add NPC base attacking mechanics. Something simple, like Minecraft enemies spawning at night or Valheim purge system on a regular timer. Protect your base with turrets and maybe hired base defense companions. Make it cozy with decorations and a farm. Farming mechanics hopefully coming later too lol.

I hope it's pretty unique, I've been looking fairly hard lately and haven't found another game doing this yet so I think it could be a cool "hook". I suppose only time will tell. I'd really love to hear early feedback so I can get a better idea on the direction I should take!

In short, my inspiration is Muck meets GTA, with a hint of inspiration from Remnant and Gunfire Reborn. Survive and escape a city, build your home Off The Grid. Hey that could be a good name...
