If you follow us on YouTube, you will already be aware that we have rebranded. But if not, Desinda Dev, formerly known as StoryDev, is paving the way for newer ideas and developments with the goal of providing Unlimited Possibility with our upcoming project, Desinda Studio.
For those who follow us here, you may be aware of Twinspire. This project was trying to be too many things at once, and it seemed putting it under multiple languages was too big of an undertaking for a small studio. So, we decided to make an alternative in NC* and rebrand.
NC*, the engine that will power our user interfaces and future projects, is designed with a similar goal to Twinspire, but with one important difference. Unlike in Twinspire, which was for all intents and purposes, a video game engine, NC* is focused on only providing the bare essential tools to get started in game development, much like Twinspire was when it was first released in Haxe. Except now, NC* is Raylib-based, not Kha-based.
However, that's the engine. Desinda Studio, on the other hand, is a tool designed to assist in the development of NC* projects. Using Desinda Studio would give the following advantages:
And perhaps more features to come.
Desinda Studio is still a work-in-progress. NC* progress has been talked about on YouTube, but we will also work on our editor which will complement NC* and its progress.
We are taking lessons from Story Creator and Character Generator and intend on bringing them both under one roof. Our roadmap is fairly simple, but one that is quite lengthy and extensive.
Over the months since Character Generator's release, we realised that the business model for it was unsuccessful. Although it is now free, we know based on how little support it has gotten that it is not worth our investment and will not continue working on this project. It was a good in theory, but it wasn't going to pay for itself and losing our only artist also didn't assist in its progress. It was probably for the best this project was set to one side until such a time when we are operating as a business with a decent income.
Desinda Dev, as was StoryDev before, is still considered a hobby project but with commercial intentions. We are still for-profit, regardless of the "free" price tag. But like all things in life, nothing is free. There is no such thing as free. And it serves me no benefit to give away my skills with nothing in return.
But, as I love programming so much, I will continue to make software under this new name for the foreseeable future, in the hope you will stay with us. As mentioned before, Desinda Studio is our new software with a purpose which I hope you will enjoy using when it becomes available.
We will continue to produce videos and updates when the time comes. NC* will be the thing we discuss the most and any reference to Desinda Studio will be informational only.
