Robert here.
I wanted to touch bases on Project RoC with all of the players, and make sure everyone is on the same page as much as possible.
Let’s start with the core gameplay, and refresh everyone up on it. The game fundamentally is a single-server (multi-sharded), globally multiplayer game that pits two teams against one another; fantasy football for gamers. Every player can choose their own method of helping their planet whether that’s through raw power, healing, providing economic benefits, defenses, and much more to come over time. Every time the war is finished the realm is reset, all player progress is reset, and a new cycle begins, with a new war ensues where players can select a different team each cycle, or stay loyal, and amass their own faction of other players that carries between cycles.
Currently the player join the discord server, and when they use the command roc
for the first time, any kind of capitalization or lowercasing is allowed: RoC, rOC, etc. They will then be sent a DM by the Project: RoC bot asking them which team they’d like to join. Afterward they join a team, they will have access to the bot’s “Play Panel”, which will provide them with a multitude of actions. The fundamental action that we’re trying to make feel better is the scavenging. That is was every player will do when they enter the game. It’s incremental style, press a button, earn things, but that will lead to you being able to upgrade your production facilities, craft components to make weapons, and sell your higher value components for money to buy “Sentents”.
Every 5 minutes (time subject to change), a skirmish occurs, the report is sent to the #skirmish channel, and players can review their planets progress there. This skirmish report is something I am trying to improve the format of, I am not happy with what it looks like.
The story revolves around a meta-realm, a unique alternate dimension, that was created by the inhabitants of two neighboring celestial bodies, Titan and Analis. This meta-realm was established as part of a peace treaty between the two warring planets, partnered with the idea of replacing their military forces with highly advanced and formidable beings known as Sentents. These Sentents, composed of silicone vessels imbued with a powerful energy source called Kalco, were designed to participate in battles within the meta-realm. The goal of this unified project was to cease the killing of innocent civilians from either planet. These battles would determine important events and rulings between both planets.
After a month of use however, a catastrophic implosion event occurred, causing the meta-realm to essentially become a self-contained universe where the Titan and Analisian’s were trapped in a seemingly eternal war. Relations between both planets became nothing but violent, and war doesn’t just involve Sentents anymore, but commanders, and civilians again.
The players of this game, referred to as Protectors, are individuals from the real-world who are brought into the meta-realm to assist in its continued existence. Letters asking for help are given out by the Keepers who oversee the meta-realm. The true intentions of the Keepers are unknown. We know they have established the meta-realm as a subject of study and observation. The Keepers have meticulously crafted the meta-realm to ensure the eternal war between Titan and Analis continues, as it holds a wealth of information, great scientific value, and as well, a great amount of entertainment.
Currently the discord bot is released in a testing phase. I want to utilize this phase to tackle as many bugs as possible before implementing new features. I’ve been using this time to review the code, and get back in touch with the project as I did step away from it for a few months. Afterward probably about 2 weeks of this testing phase, I’ll begin implementation of new features again. The first new features that will be coming are the proposed manufacturing facilities I promised a while back, and planetary structures for players to pool resources together to build.
I’ll also be working with others to build out a wiki for the game. I plan to make one in-game as well, but for now, I want to just have a website with all of the information, as that will be easier to cobble together.
If you new to Project RoC when you’re reading this, and want to try it out, here’s the link to the discord: https://discord.gg/se9cxwT2cY
