Summer 2024 Update #01

Hello, this is Corinna.

I’m writing a blog post to share some info regarding the Summer 2024 roadmap announced in April.

Before I talk about project updates, I wanted to share that Platonic Love has hit 1000 total plays! I’m honestly amazed that so many people have seen and experienced my work. It means a lot to me, so thank you.

The first topic I want to talk about is Otome Jam 2024. Project Ice Cream’s title has been locked and the game will be called The Marshall Parlour

The development of The Marshall Parlour is currently underway, albeit very slowly. Due to personal circumstances and the overall scope of the script, development has been on the script and outline for an exeedingly long amount of time, more so than originally speculated from Platonic Love’s development time. I’m working in a way where I’m adapting the script and outline to be as economical as possible for the main production phase where assets will be made, instead of cutting out content. One of the noticable critiques of Platonic Love was its extremely short run-time, so I want to make sure The Marshall Parlour is a longer and more fledged out story. The release date has already been set and I am intent on releasing the game on that day. I’ll be announcing the release date alongside the game’s official announcement in late June.

The second topic I want to talk about is O2A2 2024. I announced previously that I would be participating in this jam. Due to The Marshall Parlour’s release being so close to the jam’s start time, I have sadly decided to cancel my participation as a solo dev in this jam. I’m very sorry to the fans who were anticipating a release from me for this game jam.

I will still be participating in O2A2 2024 as a music composer for HusbandoGoddess’s release.

Finally, I will still be aiming to complete a short mini-project in August. This project will be an unofficial age rating system that I’ll use to communicate what kind of content a game has more clearly to my audience. This project will be tested on The Marshall Parlour when it releases.

While writing the outline for The Marshall Parlour, I was worried about how more mature content inside the game could be sensitive to players. For example, The Marshall Parlour has an area that contains moderate explicit content which can come across as sensitive for some players. Because of this, itch.io creators tend to make a content warning on their page… From what I’ve seen, a lot of them blend into the page design, or don’t give a recommended age rating, or describe trigger warnings too directly or indirectly. Because of this, I looked across the internet to see if there was an age rating system I could use that describes what content would be inside the game, like the ESRB or PEGI rating boards. However, these age ratings have to be approved or have a licence. So where is this age rating system I’m looking for: an openly available content warning resource I can refer to when making games that could be sensitive to players? This is the question that I hope to answer with this project in August.

I will be back soon to talk about the development of The Marshall Parlour in June and give a proper development update, given the current progress I described earlier.

By the way, if you missed it from my previous post, I have a Pika blog that has RSS support. This is the best place to catch up on any updates!

Thank you for your continued support,

Corinna
