Elfie Devlog #01 - First Public Presentation

Disclaimer: I decided to share the devlogs I write over on Cohost here to make it a bit easier to share with anyone.
Tokyo Game Dungeon 4

Now I wonder what I should be including in a devlog...

Tokyo Game Dungeon

I participated to Tokyo Game Dungeon the previous weekend and it was an amazing experience. There were so many other indies there and I regret not going both days since I feel like I didn't have the chance to go around and see everyone else's booths more.

I was presenting my current solo project for the first time in a public setting! Initially I wanted to have a steam page ready but that didn't end up happening. However I got to see people enjoy the current mini-games that I had ready to demo for this event! I took mental notes of how people played each game and I will likely adjust some things thanks to having so many different people try out each of the mini-game.

There also seemed to be an interest in what console it would be available on which came as a welcomed surprised since I consider that I am still very early on in development.

Next Steps

The next time I will be showing of my game will likely be at Tokyo Sandbox or the next Tokyo Game Dungeon. I will also be applying for Bitsummit, the deadline for the application are at the end of February. Taking these things into consideration, here are what I will be prioritizing for the next few months:

  • Steam presence It's nice to show of the state of my project and to market myself as a solo developer, but not having at least a basic steam page for non-developers to wishlist or follow is definitely a missed opportunity.
  • Commissioning promotional artwork for the Steam page and flyers I like the style I am going for in-game and I've gotten positive feedback on it. But I'm no illustrator when it comes to promotional-looking artwork.
  • One (or two) more short mini-game Currently I have two styles of mini-games in mind. And I classify them as shorter.
  • One more longer mini-game Or longer. But I won't be spoiling which I plan to work on just yet hehe.
  • The game hub With more mini-games, I will have to prioritize having a place where the player chooses what to play for future demos.
  • More dialogues and emphasize it's presence This is the very last thing I had finished partially implementing for Tokyo Game Dungeon. So it was a bit buggy, so I have to fix that. But also I want to add more and make it so that it shows it's meant to be a big part of the game unlike what my demo showed. Also, any dialogue I write in English should also be available in Japanese since most people trying it out will be Japanese at the events I plan to attend this year.

Is this a sufficient devlog? It looks good to me!

Are devlog just rubber duckying your project planning?
