Making a Game in 3 Hours (AD-HDevlog)

Making a Game in 3 Hours

Hello! If you don't know me yet, my name is Luckythespacecat. I'm a game developer and I've been making games for a few years now. Recently, I stumbled upon Micro Jam 12 with only 3 hours remaining. So, my ADHD brain said, "Why not?" and I decided to join. I knew this was going to be a difficult challenge.

The theme was "Ice," with a sub-theme of "Warmth is Survival." Initially, I didn't realize there was a sub-theme, so I started drawing some sprites. I began with a cat sprite, inspired by the game Stray (if you haven't played it, you definitely should). I created this animation in Aseprite.

After drawing this, I was super excited and started putting some stuff together. I began with an idea for a basic platformer, but that idea quickly turned into a game of catching mice, inspired by a game called Cat Tails. I added this with the mice sprite with about 30 minutes left. At this point, I was rushing to create the menus and death screen. That's when I noticed the second theme, "Warmth is Survival." So, I quickly added a campfire to the environment and made it slow down the passing of time for your death when you're around them. The game is called Ice Pounce and you an play it here. Thanks for reading this devlog,  and Join the Discord to Stay Tuned.
