Following the Fun

While testing a new ice skating mechanic I discovered a bug where the player remains "grounded" when on ice no matter what slope angle they are standing on. This led to the player being able to infinitely jump while on an icy slope essentially allowing them to climb nearly vertical walls as long as they are made of ice. Instead of immediately tracking down the bug, I played with it for a little while. I found that flying up an icicle was actually a lot of fun and it reminded me a lot of a similar mechanic in Mario 64. In Shifting Sand Land there are four vertical pillars that Mario is able to run directly upwards for some unexplained reason.

I thought to myself "maybe Nintendo had a similar bug and decided to leave it in as a mechanic." It doesn't matter that the mechanic is strange and unusual. I'm confident that once the player understands the interaction, they will use it to there advantage and have fun.

More to come,
John
