What Went Wrong with SJK Shiratori?

I had to put this as a general post, and not a devlog, partly because of reasons. I'm somehow worried about why this one sold less than the other version, despite the fact that I wanted to make this into some kind of Zelda Oracles formula where you play them both to unlock certain features. There are many reasons I think could be the problem, such as the character designs, their cheesy dialogues, and perhaps the intentional difficulty increase. Not to mention the secret character, which I had plans to change if she was ever the problem.

I had no problem with these characters back in development, especially the gamer Umika, the poet Chise, the stubborn Yuno, and the quiet Mariko. One thing I noticed is that while all of the Shiratori students almost wear the same top, you can't notice whether they wear one extra layer of clothing or not. I intentionally didn't do that with the Nightingale girls since some of them wear vests. Bottoms are a bit more predictable, especially for Yuno, who wears bike shorts, and Mariko, who wears pantyhose.

Could the dialogue be the problem? Maybe? Perhaps it's because I was trying to come up with good lines that reflect their personality and their character and ended up running out of good ideas, leaving a pile of cheesy dialogue in it. But I see not much problem with the dialogues, as much as they're not much of a big deal, unless you're trying to write down the clues that will lead to the secret character, which I'll talk about later on.

When I was still developing Strip Junken, I thought about making two games with sets of girls with varying difficulties, although there was this one idea where each girl is harder than the last, which I turned down for such an idea where one game (Shiratori) has 1-star and 4-star difficulty girls and another (Nightingale) has 2-star and 3-star difficulty girls, just for balance.

Now, the last reason I think why SJK:SC sold less than SJK:NA is because of the secret character I made for the said version, who is originally going to be a l*****n, but I've decided to tone down her character to avoid issues. I'm not sure whether I'll keep her design as-is, partly to make her a joke like Nightingale's secret character, who is a bit chubby compared to the main girls. As for the password, I could practically change that, and the old password will not work in the update whatsoever.

While I haven't started on the SJK updates, which will include some new features for those who have already downloaded and installed the game, I might drop some more posts just to keep in touch with what new features we'll expect in the update that will be available on both Shiratori College and Nightingale Academy.

(Note: I've also made some adjustments to make the screen fit perfectly.)

That's all for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time.
