I went on a long bike ride today across eastern Tokyo along the Arakawa. It was serene, full of open sky and green space. One moment in particular stood out to me: this massive bridge roadway. Across this quiet park area was this behemoth. It stretched on infinitely and was elevated in a way that looked like it reached into the clouds. The contrast between this humble green space and this monolithic structure was striking. It sparked my imagination with ideas for an interactive experience about an otherworldly, menacing bridge to the unknown. The lore behind it was ominous and cosmic in nature, yet grounded and familiar. The engineering and resources to build such a bridge fascinates me. It's such a massive undertaking to cross such a small area—our best attempt at conquering nature. There's a whole tiny world I want to build. I have way too many projects right now, but something about this bridge is calling me to create.
