How About Some MORE Bubble Frog?!

Hey sexy peeps!

Shorter update today. Depression has been rearing it's ugly head and motivation is always the first thing to fall appart for me. Good news is it's not totally stopped me!

Bubble Frog is now proudly sporting 12 levels! The last 2 levels start to get a bit more creative but Level 13/14/15 will introduce a moving hazard which I think will mix things up a lot :D

I've also begun building a document of rules for the level design, like the thinnest vertical gap Bubble Frog can fit through is 2 tiles wide (1 tile = 8 pixels), and the thinnest horizontal gap he can bounce through is 4 tiles high. Little things like this are super handy for speeding up level design as obviously I can't release an unfinishable game, I'm not TMNT on the NES!

I've also FINALLY started adding sound! For sound effects I've stuck with the insanely useful GBFX - sound effects for Game Boy by Yogi (Tronimal) which I also used for Chumbles Bumbles, but this time for music I've gone with GB Studio Imaginary Game Original Soundtrack by Mr.V which I feel captures the playful nature of Bubble Frog well (and when SFX are using the sound channel used by some instruments in Mr.V's tracks they still sound good which is important!).

Due to this out sourcing I'm now thinking about a cute credits screen which will be viewable from the title screen by pressing a button :D

So that's all for this update but up next I have;

  • Create the NPC to introduce the next mechanic
  • Create a Credits Page
  • Build levels 13/14/15
  • Create at least 2 moving hazards (vertical and horizontal)
  • Create a temp end screen
  • Setup an itch.io page

Yup, at 15 levels I plan to release an early access view of the game, fully playable, and hopefully with feed back I can then go on to make a bunch more levels for people to enjoy and see where it goes from there. Ideally I'd love to take part in next weeks Trailer Tuesday on Twitter with my first ever game trailer, so hopefully it'll all be polished enough that I can make a little trailer by then (or the week after if I'm running behind).

Anywho, enough of my yammering. Thanks for reading (if anyone is reading these).

See you next update!

-Timbo
