AI is a pretty controversial topic. Some people won't play a game that smacks of AI, especially Generative AI. I don't think Generative AI will replace artists, real artists, but for an independent with a focus on writing, the new technology just makes new things possible. I think in the long run that's going to expand the gaming experience for everyone.

There are companies promoting "AI" NPCs in games. In "Emergence" the AI actually provides players with access to levels and ultimately finishing the game. It's a bit of a "make your own adventure" game. The AI isn't an add-on or a labour saving tool, it's integral to the game design and combines with content (developed with Twine) to provide the whole experience.
