Learning Godot by Prototyping #1

September 12th 2023 is a very eventful day for some game developer around the world. If you haven't read the news, Unity decide to change it's license term and introduce the controversial platform runtime fee. After HUGE backlash from the community, Unity decide to backtrack a bit. They even change their CEO to show some goodwill to developer.

But for some people, like us, it's too late. We actually love Unity and it's ease of use. But after all their recent fiasco culminating in the introduction of platform runtime fee, we finally decide enough is enough and looking for other tool to use. It take some time, but if you haven't read the title of this blog post, we finally decide on using Godot.

Godot is an open source game development tool that has gained traffic for several years now.  It use GDScript and C# to code, and relatively similar in interface with Unity (although really different in every other aspect instead). Godot might be not easy and practical to use as Unity right now, but with the push of Unity issue and hundreds developer flocking to help develop Godot's feature, we believe it will only get better in near future. That's why we decide to learn more about game development using Godot.

On our next post, we'll share about our journey in learning about Godot as a beginner.
