Updates

I said in the last post that I would finish the first level and upload the game. I have decided since then that I will finish the first section of the game up to the first boss fight. When I finish each subsequent section I will update the game. These updates will be called 0.1, 0.2, etc and when the game is fully finished I will release 1.0. You may be, and hopefully are for the sake of me telling you this, excited to find out the name of the game: *drumroll please* …… The Adventure of Juan.

Also, this game now has a story. Basically, there is a kingdom on an island ruled by unnamed monarchs is taken over and corrupted by an unnamed evil king and his wife, an unnamed evil queen. Juan, who is unfortunate enough to live nearby, like many others, is forced to build a space-high tower. Juan is brave yet stupid enough to attempt to rebel, but gets blasted away to the other side of the island. There he meets and old man, who trains him in melee combat and starts his journey across the island to the tower to defeat the aforementioned unnamed evil king and queen.

I’m trying to make this game very open with many options for what path you can take while still being required to do some levels. I may take inspiration from Super Mario Bros. Wonder for this with its linear path, occasional open area and levels and ways forward that must be unlocked with in-game collectibles. I may also use walls or gates to block off paths I don’t want the player to take, for example using a gate that can only be opened after completing a level with, say, a boss fight.

Now that I have told you all the AoJ (Adventure of Juan) updates I have been working on another game in Unity called Minigamemania. As stated in the name, this is a minigame collection. I am currently prototyping a minigame called Bonk Wars, and have many ideas to be made. That is all the updates I have.
