Breaking Ground on a New Game!!

For the past couple of weeks I've been working on a new title, now that I've wrapped up work on Static Sanctuary. Since I am a student-athlete, my time to work on these things is limited, but I'm putting most of my free time towards this project. This game will be a story focused horror-puzzle experience. Currently the main mechanic of the game revolves around having a main world and a mirror world. Any of the main levels of the game will  have a mirror that can see into a warped version of the level. The player can walk through this mirror and interact with objects that effect the other world and vice-versa. The mirror world will also contain some dangers, which I'll keep secret for now. I've developed a couple fancy things for this project so far. The first is a dynamic procedural generation algorithm for foliage and object placement. This takes a rarity array, and a list of game objects, and can then spawn them on any predetermined geometric shape, based off of those rarity indices. I've included demonstration photos below:

The other tech that I've used is for the art style of some of mirror world. For that I'm using a Sobel Edge Detection algorithm, combined with a dither filter for the textures, to create a dither-outlined, minimalistic, 2-bit render. It is heavily inspired by the likes of Obra Dinn, and I'm super stoked about how it looks. I've included a demonstration below:

I need to adjust some of the brightness levels, but aesthetically, I'm super stoked with how this is turning out. If any of this interests you, I will be trying to post semi-regular updates on this project. I'm excited, as this will be my first non-VR title, and I'll be happy to expand my audience to a broader scale. Stay tuned for more!!!
