Hey everyone! Welcome to dev log number one about this wonderful project. I really like the Resident Evil series, which is probably the game that influenced me the most to create this game. I also played 2 souls game, Lies of P and Elden Ring, which has amazing level designs and inter-connected pathways between areas and I would love to recreate some of that here. There's also a lot of indie horror games out there that inspired me, Chilla's Art's games, "Fears To Fathom", Puppet Combo's game, Alisa, and a lot more!
The idea here is to create a linear survival horror with resources management, detective, mystery elements into it. The game takes place somewhere in Vietnam, incorporating Vietnamese spiritual beliefs and horror elements. The story is in a remote area, where lies a mansion you were tasked, from a mysterious elderly lady, as a job to investigate the horrifying incident that happened years ago. Investigate. Survive. Unravel the Truth.
I make the starting level to be this mansion on a hill where the player will see from a distance, through a twisted trail up the hill. It started off as an idea that I got from an image on Google about mansions in Da Lat. After which I tried to make the game in Unity but I wasn't really happy with it so I port everything over to Unreal where I have more experience and expertise in as well as more enjoyable workflow.
I then expanded the outside areas of the house to be by a large river stream flowing down, with a path to the vantage point you can see in the first image. If the player made their way upstream, they can either make their way to the other side of the river with a bridge. or turn right to a small enclosed area with an abadoned shed
