The time for the demo is coming closer and closer, and I thought I'd bring everyone on here up to speed as to how development has gone thus far!
What is Lux?
Lux is a story-based 2D platformer that follows Lou, who uses a lantern with a magic flame to defeat darkness and learn more about herself. It is inspired by games like Undertale, Night in the Woods, and Pinstripe. It also draws some inspiration from Christianity.
It has been in development since the end of last year and is currently being made in Game Maker. It is personally my first official game that I've developed (outside of little ones I tried to make in RPG maker as a kid...), and has a team of 3 other people rallied behind it (2 artists, @stinky_doodles_ and @willow_illustrations on Instagram and one programmer @birdie_blu3 on Instagram.).
So what's the progress?
A lot of progress has been made! Below is an image of the bare bones of Lux when it first began being coded in October last year. I was so excited about how Lou was able to jump and run...Ah, good times.
Since then a lot has happened. The main focus of the Demo is getting a general idea of the game, but also just a bare bones version of the first level of Lux that people can give feedback on. A lot has been stripped back, but a lot has been included as well! Including some unique music (written by me!), some stunning visuals by our artists, and so so much difficult coding by our programmer. The team have put in some ridiculously hard work and I can't thank them enough.
There's been a lot of road blocks. Mainly the coding has been very annoying to us (as I'm sure many of you are familiar with, things working one second, then broken the next), and trying to keep up with deadlines while also letting people know Lux is out there has been so difficult.
But we're nearly at the finish line, and I believe in us! I am so proud of where we've gotten with the product, and so excited to take on some feedback and see Lux become better than ever. Go team!
