Conducting Research for Game Design

Hello everyone. This is my first Dev Log.

I've chosen the design challenge of "housing insecurity." I decided to expand on the original topic and narrowed my research focus to "child housing insecurity." My goal is to explore the root causes of this issue, the impact of housing insecurity on children and parents, and possible solutions. I'll support my points by searching for relevant peer-reviewed journals and reliable data.

Here are my research findings:

1. Government actions directly impact housing affordability, particularly in rapidly developing urban areas. These interventions can benefit society by improving educational outcomes and physical well-being. Initiatives include financial support for constructing and renovating subsidized housing units and offering subsidies to low-income families.

2. A study involving 26 mothers assessed at 12 and 36 months using The Composite International Diagnostic Interview-Short Form (CIDI-SF) highlighted the negative effects of housing insecurity issues (e.g., housing quality, utility bill arrears, terminated phone services) on maternal well-being. These issues resulted in conditions like fatigue, depression, sleep disturbances, and more. The presents a conceptual model that emphasizes the critical role of housing/parental well-being in children's development.

3. Empowering low-income families through job assistance and income subsidies provides a path out of poverty. Additionally, offering affordable healthcare coverage and childcare assistance tailored to these families' specific needs can alleviate financial burdens.

In summary, addressing housing insecurity is a complex and widespread issue that requires concerted efforts and active participation from various stakeholders. I also aim to design a relevant game based on these issues to raise awareness of their existence and impact while attempting to convey practical solutions.
