So I participated in the 1-BIT jam this year.
The theme was "Where am I" and this is the game I came up with : AntiVirus by Roughnight (itch.io)
I uses Godot4.1.1 to create the game. Initially I would have drawn all textures Black/White but I quickly added a dithering shader, as
I couldn't get the meshes to look right. With some tweaking in the shader and with the shader params, I got some Ok looking result.
I started to model the props, all kind of electronic parts that you can find on motherboards. I used Blender for the main part of the meshes.
As I was blocking out the main level, the visuals felt boring and with the dithering to dense... So I played a bit with Light, added an outline screen shader and voilá, that's the result I was looking for.
Hyped by the looks of the game so far, I created the 3 main enemys and their behaviour. As I mentioned it live on stream, I missplaned the whole enemy-script. A lot of copy and paste, redundant code and a lot of bugs... but time was not on my side at this moment. So I quickly fixed all the bugs I could, sketched some simple puzzle mechanics.
The last 6 hours of the jam... I got the game somewhat functional and playable from start to finish. So it's time for the best part.... the UI -.-.
Don't want to bore you with UI... let's say it just works.....
After that was done, I realized I had no sound effects and no music :D so I went to FreeMusicArchive and OpenGameArt and quickly grabbed some stuff.
2 hours to deadline....
All done so far... playtesting, sound balancing, enemy balancing... exporting, testing and again^^ what a stressfull task
I submitted the game with 1 hour to spare, because I was fully exhausted but proud that I finished the gamejam version in time :)
The whole week I was coding in GDscript, moving Stuff around in Godot, Meshbuilding in Blender/Blockbench and I had a blast.. Godot hads come a long way and it's only getting better!
The next goal is, and I already started, making a full game. But not in Black/White, with more colors, effects, better sound/music. More Enemys, more weapons, more puzzles^^ I occasionally stream the development live on twitch (twitch.tv/roughnight86, come in and say hi)
So long... see you at the next update
