Krauser’s Studio is looking for members!
I’m looking for people to join my development team. You can be highly specialized in a field or come into this having no idea what to do or how to do it but you’re driven. I have a list of Do’s and Don’t I’d appreciate you looking over very carefully before applying.
Things I don’t tolerate:
Bigotry of any kind (racism, sexism, anything anti-LGBT, ect)
Constant and unending attempts to date staff members when they’ve told you no or retaliation for rejection.
Telling other people their ideas for a game are stupid or some kind of condescending response.
Starting drama or being unable to work as a team.
Sexualizing EVERYTHING.
Derailing important development conversations about unrelated things.
The inability to shut up about non-related topics i.e. politics, religion. Example: If you can’t resist going on a pro/anti-god tangent and just have to push your views/beliefs on everyone, learn some self control before applying.
“The Earth is flat!”
“MLMs are not a pyramid scheme!”
“The Backstreet Boys are the classics.”
“Why does me eating over an open mic bother you?”
Things I’m in the middle about
“What if I just design how the game works?”
As a solo game dev, that’s 3% of what I do and it’s not enough to just have that role. If we reach a point where we make one of your ideas into a full game, sure, take the lead but you’ll have to have at least one other role.
“I have a really chaotic life and I don’t know when I’d be able to do anything.”
Check in with me twice a month and we’re fine. Just let me know you’re still interested and keep me in the know about crap going on. Even if you have to step back and just be a sounding board or beta tester. Disappear without a word for a month and I’ll assume you’re no longer interested, then that will be that. Plus if you're brand new to all of this, I might not have a bunch of work for you starting off.
“Can my kids join?”
It’s not about your kids being a problem, I just A: Can’t work with minors B: Child labor laws can get tricky C: I can’t reliably expect you to side against your own kid if there’s an issue. I’d have to get to know them and you pretty well before I’m okay with this.
Things I’m fine with
“I have no known skills and have no idea what I can contribute or how any of this crap works and I’m super anxious I’ll screw everything up and humiliate myself. I’m also broke.”
There’s a ton of small, easy, free things I can teach you that are easy for you to learn but add a lot to the game and have almost no limit to what you can do. I can show you the basics of making a UI, sound effects, making a map/level that is fun and doesn't require you to learn anything except how to plop things where they need to go and adjust their size/color. There's tons of modular assets which means "You have a lot of peices and can assemble them into w/e you want!" You can make guns, vehicles, buildings, maps, UIs and even cool effects like a magic casting all the way up to a nuclear explosion!
“I have a lot of anxiety and can’t handle being yelled at!”
I mean honestly if you get overwhelmed with a task, I don’t mind jumping in to help or finish it off, just ask for help. I’m just tired of doing literally everything myself. Plus we can do a transitional phase where you slowly accomplish larger and larger tasks at your leisure. Feel free to mess around with skills I’ve taught you without any deadline or expectation then when you make something cool that you’re proud of, toss it my way. I’m quite flexible with assignments.
“I hate talking/my typing skills are terrible!”
Whatever medium of communication you need is fine. Just let me know. I just need some reliable form of contact.
"What if I have an idea for a game?"
I'm completely fine with this but starting off, I need to see how you handle everything related to being on a team. We'll start with an easy game that we may or may not release. I want the first thing we work on to benefit my brand so if I teach you a bunch of skills and then you just vanish, I at least got something out of my effort with you. I know that can sound cold, but working with random people on the internet is extremely unreliable and most of them just never log on after a certain point with no explanation why. Stick around and you could very well be working on a game you've been daydreaming about! If you're motivated and a hard worker, I'd be happy to whip up a prototype for you to mess around with in your free time of what you want!
