I have already touched on this on this before, but I’m making this a post because not a lot of people seem to be picking up on it.
You can’t run old blocksworld games on newer versions of windows, IOS, or macOS, because the current operating systems are not compatible sadly.
Because the blocksworld EXE file on windows and the blocksworld app on iOS doesn’t work on the newest operating systems, you can’t launch the application, but what you CAN do depends on what operating system you are on, and whether or not you have cellular turned on or off if on iOS
If you are on IOS 14.5 or later(Cellular not turned off), MacOS, Chromebook, Steamdeck, Windows 11 SE(Starter Edition), Android, or SteamOS 3.0:You will not be able to play the games.
If you are on windows 11 or IOS 14.5 or later(Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi + Cellular[Cellular off]:You can use the secondary server(IOS & Windows) to run the blocksworld program/app and play the games. To run the programs on IOS, turn off cellular first to run the secondary server. In addition, on Windows 11(All versions except SE), you can also use a virtual machine to run programs that don’t run on windows 11.
If you are on Windows 10 or earlier, IOS 14.4 or earlier, or on SteamOS 2.0 or earlier:You can still play the games if you had the game files in your possession before blocksworld had shut down.
However, most of my blocksworld games are now here on itch.io, as well as fancade and the Internet archive. Your save data will not transfer, but save data on one of these platforms can be carried between all three platforms(pretty neat)
And in fact, as of recently, some older blocksworld games are getting “Fullscreen” versions too, to emulate the original experience on the new platforms
Note:If the secondary server does not work on windows, try following the instructions here
If you still cannot run an older blocksworld game after these steps:Support is no longer provided for blocksworld. The program will need to be reinstalled instead.
