May 2023 Updates

Hello everyone, just a small update since it's been quite a while since my last one.

I am still working on Nausea (💀💀💀verzeiht mir bitte bin faulig)! I have just been spending a lot of time fixing the art style of the game as well as colour indexing so that making new tilesets isn't so tedious. All of my colour palettes have different sizes, which is fine, except none are organised the same way and it split into 3 over time. So I've been reducing the colours overall and then making sure all of my new tilesets stick more closely to my new system so I don't smash my computer out of frustration. I also changed Giulia's sprites quite a bit ;)

I have been globalising(?) the art style to be more „consistently inconsistent“ (I have multiple art styles in the game that I intentionally want to clash, but then they all broke down into further sub-styles which just became a big mess and I hate it so I'm fixing it). It's really jarring in a lot of maps even located within the same area to have such different design philosophies, which is bound to happen as I've evolved my design philosophy over a long period of development time. Many of the older areas are inconsistent and just janky. It's charming, in a way, but ultimately not what I'm going for in the game so I will just fix things lol. I'm trying to show my own character more through the game rather than being super utilitarian and breaking down everything to its most essential elements to capture it in pixel art form because that feels really robotic when it's applied to EVERY SPRITE rather than a general rule with many exceptions. Destroys the character a bit, I feel.

Also, I have been working on the German demo version of the game. I'll drop it alongside the updated English demo since the game has undergone a LOT of changes since December 2021. It feels weird to not have it released already because I develop the game mostly in German (you can see it in the engine moreso) but I just decided to make the base version be in English. Don't expect that any time soon, probably. Maybe end of the summer, if I'm not being lazy lucky.

probably might slightly alter these a little bit but generally i am happy with how they look compared to originally. it felt a little too cartoonish, i guess. blah blah that is the update, i hope i will have more to show soon, but until then i will crank 90s to get this game closer to being finally done
