How to lower your expectations in game dev

WHY?: You won't beat yourself up when your unreasonable expectations don't happen, you will create a much more manageable game.

  • Expect less: don't expect things to be easy, don't expect things to be hard, just react.
  • Set a timer to make the base game and write a list that the game couldn't exist without, the timer should take less than a day
  • Test early and often: Regularly test your game as you develop it to identify and fix any issues early on. This will help you avoid major problems down the road.
  • Accept imperfections: Realize that your game will not be perfect and that's okay. Embrace the imperfections and use them as opportunities to learn and improve your skills for future projects.
  • If you know you've over-scoped, don't shelve the project, clean it up and sell what you have for less
