Hi wonderful people! Here to share the results of the Spring Game Jam we had earlier this semester and show what the teams had made. The theme of the jam was End Where You Started which could relate to visuals, game design, writing, and more that you will see teams have tackled differently. Let’s get started!
TEAM ONE
Created by Gregory and 4meNews, this was their first time doing a game jam in which they had the opportunity to try their hands at programming a game. Here, they followed the concept of a squirrel finding nuts and returning in order to try out Unity for the first time. Though they expressed that there were some difficulties using the engine in terms of scripting, they nonetheless enjoyed utilizing it for this game jam due to its easy UI system and its friendliness to beginners. Despite not getting the final result of their project, they wish to expand on this and create more projects for future game jams or ideas they may have.

TEAM TWO
Created by Jordan, Caitlin, Sarah, Manny, and Yasmine, this project took the theme to mean a space galaxy girl who fights off the monsters known as Tentamoles, as she collects pieces of her rocket that have scattered in order to return home. Utilizing Unity, there was some difficulty regarding some of the more ambitious mechanics including gravity free-fall and character movement. Nonetheless, much of the 2D and 3D assets were finished during the span of the game jam and they have expressed their desire to finish the game moving forward.

TEAM THREE
Created by Michael Rivera, Thomas Nguyen, and Joann Sum, they created a visual novel inspired by a dirt life-being who can grow into different things that you must take care of. Being the first time they worked on a game jam together, they worked on pulling this together within the limited time span to create something that would resonate with the theme. While they expressed that the game is not finished in its current state, they could imagine it being expanded upon moving forward as they further their skills.

TEAM FOUR
Created by Carlos Mora, Jonathan Story, Dania Nasereddin, and Gabe Mision, Mouse House involves a starving mouse named Perry trying to get some lunch at home as Shaun the cat patrols through the vicinity with the help of his traps. The team underwent some stress with GitHub (especially Dania) and at one point, even their digital artist pen had died on them, leaving them scrapped with the only assets available to them. Nonetheless, they pulled through their sleep deprivation, especially Jonathan and Carlos who are the Unity pros of the team, and made a fun game within the span of a weekend.
