Devlog - My First Game Jam - 1

Hi,  all!  I go by the online alias Melon Husk and I am an indie dev with very little experience. I thought joining the My First Game Jam would be a great opportunity to dive head first into game development. While I originally intended to focus solely on development and not do much on Itch.io, upon the suggestion of a friend (hi Browntul :) )  I decided to start a devlog where I will write about anything about the game I'm currently working on; my aim, what I'm doing, what I already did, some of the challenges, what I totally fucked up and so on.  That's about it, without further ado:

6th of February, 2023

1. Made a very rudimentary menu. It uses the "signal" function of Godot, where if a button is pressed  a value can be returned to any other node in the same scene. I then use the value returned to the parent node menu, where the scene is changed to the starting area.

2. I modified the starting area so that if the player walks to the left and collides with the collision shape, they are teleported to another scene which will soon become the great outdoors! I already have the autotiles and collisions for said autotiles set up, so creating the actual RPG setting should hopefully be a breeze. Also, I tried to make it so that the player could only exit the scene if they first interact with the quest giver first, but I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. Any ideas?  I also added some jazzy background music.

3. I made a custom theme for the dialogue boxes. I am using an addon called "Dialogic" which is very useful. Dialogic has this super cool feature where sound effects can be played as a character speaks, so I was also sure to take advantage of that.
