Tangled Blessings

Blackroot Academy, a prestigious clandestine school of arcane, profane, and mystical arts accepted you, and you flourished. Now you are on the precipice of graduation with only one final night to study. Tomorrow, you will face your rival, an equal to you in talent and prospect, for one final exam, to determine the shape your future holds. Everything will be decided tomorrow. But tonight, you have only your thoughts and memories of the four years in these halls.

I played Tangled Blessings by Cassi Mothwin! This game is a hack of Anamnesis and takes place the night before a big exam in a magical academy!

You start the game by making your character, what their specialty is, how they received their letter, and what they hope to gain at the Academy.

You then create your Rival! There are 22 different Rivals, each represented by a major arcana card. You can draw a card, or pick your favorite!

You then draw to see what House you are assigned, and use this to determine the personalities of yourself and your Rival.

After the setup you move on to remembering your time in the Academy. Each suit represents one year, and you draw cards to see what you did and what your rival did! There are also a few prompts for the in between year breaks, such as a party, or going home.

I played a conflicted man, specializing in glass and plagued by the heat and smoke of his former life, as he tried to decide what he should do about his rival, a fanatical, charismatic cult leader, with whom he had a tumultuous volatile relationship.

You can read my playthrough here!

And go back the game here!
