Devlog # 2: Regarding the Monthly BGs and Things I've Done This Month

The month of January comes to an end, and as it does a lot of things are cropping up in my personal life. Don't worry, its for the better! But it just needs a lot of my attention that I have to put some things aside so I can tend to it.

The monthly backgrounds are one of them. I know I was supposed to have 2 bgs done by the end of January, but as projects in my life are being planned out and, as I said before, needs attention, I realize that I won't be able to monthly backgrounds on a regular basis, let alone the ones I was currently working on.

That isn't to say I'm quitting drawing them. I actually really do want to continue and frankly it bums me out that I can't right now! I like having a monthly goal and one bg a month or two every other month is pretty feasable, but what I can best do is a bg every so often. I can't tell you when or how often, it'll just come when I have the spoons to do them.

That being said, I did a deep clean of my hard drive earlier in the month, and I found a lot of assets from my old defunct games that I'd like to release with a Creative Commons license! It will take a bit of painting and editing to ensure they match my currently released sprites, and like the bgs, I don't know when they'll come out other than when I have the spoons.

Recently, my spoons have been going towards doing a UI overhaul for my currently released games but also games I will be releasing in the future. The goal is to have a UI framework for me to work off of so I won't have to do much in future games, and also expand the accessability functions Ren'Py can offer, and also adding stuff I honestly wish other visual novels had.

Some parts of that overhaul include a new Save/Load screen with the ability to lock saves and toggling the abilty to color the text you've seen. I will actually be releasing that code for people to use, so be on the lookout for that!

My goal this February is to see if I can get something together for the 2nd anneversary of Pillars on Poppy Hills, like the UI overhaul or the artbook. I can't promise anything though, but I am looking forward to it regardless! I can't believe it's been nearly two years since I published my first visual novel! Even after all this time, the story and characters are near and dear to my heart, so if you haven't already go check it out!

That's it for now! See you in the next devlog!
