Harem Dungeon is moving to the browser!

Happy 2023 Harem Dungeon fans! To kick off the year, I'm excited to share the brand new Harem Dungeon Demo, playable at https://haremdungeon.com. For those of you who have played the PC version, it should feel very familiar. The move from Unity to Browser was a big decisions, and I wanted to share a few key reasons for this change in direction:

  • Accessibility: Nothing to download or install, just open a URL.
  • Updates: web-based games are easier to update, that way nobody is asking about bugs that I fixed several versions ago.
  • Cross-platform. I had a lot of requests asking about Mac support, mobile, etc. While the game is still designed to be played on a desktop (dense UIs, dependency on mouse), it opens the door for mobile support.
  • Modding: I felt like I was pretty deep down the rabbit hole of Unity asset bundles and concluded that Unity simply doesn't have a modular modding system like the one I envisioned.
  • Community & User management: Since modding will be such a big part of this game, building web-based tools to mod the game and tying it all together with a user management system is SO much better than my previous plan with Unity

For 2023, I first plan to catch the browser version back up to where the PC version was last august. This means adding the town scene, buildings, etc and the ability to persist and advance the player between combat. After that, I'll be adding the adventure scenes and further expanding the game.

Please give the demo a try and let me know what you think. Cheers!
