It has occurred to me that, not only do we play different games, we play them in vastly different ways that are not always compatible. Unfortunately, we don't often self-identify these styles when giving advise or just interacting online. I see two differing ways that folks interact with their games: as a sport and as a performance. Depending on which side you favor, some procedures or methods of playing are going to sound great and others, not so much.
