Hello everybody!
I was planning this Devlog #2 for Halloween but I won't be able to write it then, so I decided to anticipate it a little bit.
A recap of what has been worked on for Rule of Salt since the last update... speaking of which, if you missed Devlog #1 you can read it here!
The maps and the ship layout
As of today, the layout of the Santa Compaña is composed of three main bridges plus some partial ones and two superstructures: in game design logic it means about 65 maps, which are already present in the game even though with placeholder graphics. There will be more, since these maps belong only to the ship, so wish me good luck: when I started the project I said to myself "it'll be smaller than Emerald Wasp" and here I am, 65 maps later. I'm currently working on a small custom tileset and on the first parallax map for the intro-tutorial scene!
So far I'm experimenting with a lineless approach... please trust the process!
Multiple expressions & poses for the characters
Cherbox, the artist of the game, shared it first so... rejoyce with me!
At this stage Vidal's pose and expressions are already into the game and I already teased some of them through the updates. I remember one of the critictism to my previous games was the lack of sprites, especially Leon's deadpan sarcastic expression on emotional scenes, so I'm very excited to show you this! I'm having so much fun seeing the dialogues brought to life by such expressive artwork!
Here's the preview of what they look like, I love them all and I can't wait for you to experience them in game!
Thank you for reading so far!
See you next update!
