Introducing GameWare: A Virtual Console for Indie Developers

Hello Indie Community,

Nowadays, indie games on free platforms often get lost in the shuffle, regardless of quality or content. On the other hand, many small developers can’t afford to switch to platforms like Steam. This often leaves them with no choice but to release their games as HTML5 games, which unfortunately increases the risk of them being copied.

So what if there was a virtual console that could solve all these problems? A platform where small developers can publish for free and have their own space where their games won’t get lost. A safe way to release HTML5 games.

That’s exactly what “GameWare” is – a virtual console. But what can GameWare actually do?

  1. GameWare is a virtual console. You download it as an application for Windows or Mac, and you’re ready to go! That alone might not sound impressive, but GameWare is also a player for signed HTML5 games that can only be played within the console. This means no one can just steal the code and run it. Small developers get a great opportunity to safely and freely release their HTML5 games.
  2. How does it work? It’s simple: If a developer wants to publish a game on GameWare, they can contact me and send the link to their game. I then format it into a GameWare-signed file. Signing the file is completely free, with no additional fees. The developer can then distribute the file themselves. And the best part: the GameWare console itself is free, so anyone can play the games without paying a cent!
  3. GameWare also supports physical game sales. Why? Physical games are becoming less common, with cloud gaming and download-only keys dominating the market. But because the games are signed, developers can easily put them on USB drives and sell them physically – a fantastic way to revive this niche.
  4. Community is key. Most small indie developers have only 50–100 followers who check in sporadically. Compared to large studios, small developers get lost quickly. But if 10 small indie developers bring together their communities, they can quickly reach a larger audience. GameWare provides that: a place for small developers to support each other.
