This jam is now over. It ran from 2023-01-02 16:00:00 to 2023-01-22 21:00:00. View 3 entries

Game Center referenced due to schedule and contributors need to have at least 1 member who’s from the program (making the jam not “public public”) but open and friendly for people to invite folks from outside the program!!! This is also to prevent me from organizing “team signups” if you’re a current student: I recommend poking someone in the hall or making a funny poster, we’re all weirdos. Or feel free to challenge yourself to make one on your own! We've all done it before! o7

There will be 3 game jam themes, you do not have to participate in all or any of them. This is an open winter game dev playground for people to have fun if they’d like to use it. Even I won’t do all of them!

Themes:

Jan 2-8 / Week 1: Breaking Dusk/Dawn

Jan 9-15 / Week 2: Random Generation Combinations of 2-5

1. Random Photo Generator
2. Generated Sprites by Outlaw Eric
3. Random Gif Generator (offers a safe mode)
4. Random Album Covers / Playlist
5. Supershape Generator by Andrew Marsh
6. Random Tileset by supernapie

Jan 16-22 / Week 3: Spin-Off: Yes and...!

Participation Styles

Total: 3 weeks, some ways to participate:

  • 3 themes → 1 week each → 3 games
  • 1 theme → 3 weeks total → 1 game
  • Pick and Choose*: 1 theme → 1 week → 1 game
  • *can be longer - ex: 1 theme → 2 weeks → 1 game

You’re also welcome to not use a whole week on a project! If you or your team would like to use only 6 hours or 2 days to create a game, absolutely feel free to! Only commit to how much time suits you and your schedule.

Tips + Recommendations

“Use tools that you're already familiar with and that you like, if possible. Not everyone already has a comfortable toolkit, but if you have one, this is probably not the time to try a completely new engine. Of course, it's up to you.”

Don't plan to use up all the time available. Use half of it! If you have six hours of free time, plan to get it done in three. If you find you need some extra time, you'll appreciate having it. And if you don't, great: you can relax and take care of yourself. Prepare some food, or chat with a friend, or go for a walk.” - Variety Megajam 2021

Make a weird game! Be experimental! It's a low stakes jam and you're here to have fun <3
