To celebrate the release of SUSPECT 2E, our pocket sized, mystery and memory game, we've decided to run our very first jam!
Joining the jam
If you'd like to join the jam, there are a few different ways you can enter.
Creating a case for the game
Introducing some new rules or mechanics
Adapting the rules to make an entirely new game
Making Cases
Cases are the scenarios that you and your friends can investigate as part of the game. They typically feature an unsolved mystery, an evocative location, and a group of people connected to the case. One of these cases, Flamingo Misfortune, is included with the game but we wanted to make it simple for people to create their own.
To help with this, we've created Making A Case, the Suspect Creator Kit. This includes:
A document with an annotated version of another case, Penelope Danger, to illustrate the step-by-step process for making a case.
The document also contains a visual style guide, for anyone wanting to emulate the main game.
Affinity Publisher and Google Slide templates for making your case
Affinity Publisher and Google Slide templates for a case sheet, used to track your timeline and suspect notes.
A SUSPECT CASE logo that you can optionally include with your game to mark compatibility with SUSPECT 2E.
Adding new mechanics or rules
If you want to add additional rules to the game, you can reference the additional rules that we've included in the game for inspiration. We'd love to see what new mechanics you come up with!
Making your own game
If the game inspires you to take the mechanics in an entirely different direction, we'd love to see it!
The main concept of SUSPECT is for the players to challenge each others memory, whilst providing the group with a way to share the world building and character creation. Of course, there's no reason you can't add or remove new elements to make it you own.
Some ideas of new games you could make:
A gameshow where the players have to solve puzzles to progress
An improv group that has to "yes and" without forgetting the original prompt
A scavenger hunt where you have to gather clues that tell a story
