What is a game jam? Well, a game jam is an event where participants try to make a video game from scratch within a certain timeframe. This creates a ton of learning opportunities in a fun way! You can learn how to program, draw, animate, design and much, much more. We as a study association thought it would be a cool way to motivate people to create something small and thus learn a lot in the progress. A lot of people enjoy playing games, so why not have a go at creating them?

Welcome to the SIM Game Jam 2026!

This year's theme is Chain Reaction.

A single action can set off an unstoppable sequence of events. Maybe it's a puzzle where every move matters, a physics-based simulation, a story driven by consequences, or complete chaos where one tiny mistake spirals into disaster. How you interpret the theme is entirely up to you!

Whether you're creating a fast-paced action game, a relaxing puzzle, an experimental experience, or something completely unexpected—we can't wait to see what you come up with.

Every great game starts with a single reaction. What chain will you create?

1. The game must not include any NSFW and offensive/discriminatory content and must follow Itch.io TOS.
2. The game must be submitted as a web-build. Think along the lines of HTML5 or WebGL.
3. We strongly encourage you to not use any generative AI work. However if you do decide to use it for your submission, please include for what parts of the game you have used AI.
4. You can only use assets you have the rights for. (No stolen assets.)

For every submission, there will be a possible rating. The ratings will be based on the following criteria:

• Fun: Is your game fun and enjoyable to play?
• Creativity: Does your game stand out in some way?
• Use of Theme: How well does your game make use of the given theme?

This jam will have public voting 

Honour Rules applied, so vote fairly!

Voting will end on Friday the 10th of Juli at 10:00 (GMT +2).

On Friday the 10th of Juli 14:00 (GMT +2), there will be a small award ceremony to announce the winners. This ceremony will take place at the Dutch Innovation Factory in Zoetermeer!
