Overview 

Welcome to She Built This: Game Jam! This is a chill jam for women developers to hangout and make some cool games over the course of a weekend! The jam is organized by GLITCHED - Women in Game Dev, GG Women Professionals (GGWP), and Women in Games NYC 🎆

IMPORTANT

You do not have to be a woman to join this jam. This jam is open to all genders and allies of minorities in gaming. You just need to be a kind and respectful human being.

This jam is beginner friendly. You do not need to have any or tons of experience, or be a level 76 enchantress to join this jam!

You can join the GLITCHED - Women in Game Dev discord server to get updates on the jam, find team members, and join the community!

Theme

The theme will be revealed at the start of the jam. Oo wonder what it shall be??? o.O?

Rules

  • The game must be made specifically for the jam and during the jam's time window
  • You may use pre-existing assets as long as you disclose what was made before the jam
  • Any art, sound, or external assets used that you or your team did not create MUST be credited
  • The use of Generative AI for assets is NOT allowed
  • You can solo dev or be on a team
  • You are welcome to use any game engine
    • Your game must be submitted using HTML5 / WebGL. It needs to be playable in the itch.io browser
  • No NSFW or offensive games
  • Have fun! 

Submissions

  • Your game must be submitted to the jam before the deadline
  • All of the team members must be listed on the itch.io page
  • Games must be submitted with WebGL / HTML5 and playable on the itch.io browser
    • Downloadable builds are NOT allowed

Ranking

All participants of the jam will be able to vote on each submission. The top 3 winners will be decided based on the community's ranking.

Rank is determined based on the following categories:

  • Theme: How well did this game stick to the theme
  • Creativity: Unique and unexpected ideas
  • Visuals and Audio: Overall feel and look of the game. Aesthetic ✨
  • Gameplay: Enganging mechanics with feel good controls
  • Fun!: How enjoyable was this game

There will be a special prize for the game that fits a special category! Will it be best glitch, best character design, best water, we're not sure! TBD! The judges (organizers of the jam) will vote on the game that wins this prize.

Prizes

Top 3 places will receive a 1 year subscription to Craftpix, a 2D Game Assets Store that offers high-quality premium assets for your project. An additional prize will be given to first place, which will be revealed soon!

Prize for the game that wins the special category will be announced soon!

Organizers

GLITCHED - Women in Game Dev is a community centered in the Bay Area that gives women developers a safe space to connect, network, and make friends while gaining valuable insight into the game industry through bi-monthly events.

GG Women Professionals is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit supportive community for women and allies in the game industry who are devoted to amplifying and elevating new and under-represented voices in gaming through events and strategic partnerships.

Women in Games NYC is a NYC-based community for female-identifying and femme folks in games, offering regular IRL meetups, a Discord server, and a presence at major industry events, with a focus on supporting members both in their careers and in the broader culture and life of game development.
