Information
This ongoing development jam is dedicated to a small but meaningful project called Pixels of the Past: Australia’s Game Legacy or POTP for short. Overall, the project is an open-source, non-commercial, experimental game that celebrates Australian-made video games.
Your challenge is to create a special edition level that pays tribute to any Australian-made game title and integrates six unique facts for players to collect throughout the level.
Guidelines
To support you in this process, a comprehensive guidelines document has been provided. It contains everything you need to know to complete your submission successfully, including technical specifications, creative requirements, publishing instructions, and ready-to-use templates for your level and promotional materials. This resource ensures your homage is clearly presented and aligned with the goals of the overall project.
Submission Requirements
When you’re ready to submit your project, you’ll need to provide the following:
A link to your published Itch.io page showcasing your tribute level
Personal information: your full name, email address, and course or institutional affiliation
A download link to your complete project folder, shared via a cloud storage service (e.g. Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox)
Your downloadable ZIP file must include:
The .json
file exported from GDevelop
All supporting working files required to open, run, or edit the project (such as assets, scenes, events, fonts, and any custom elements used)
These materials ensure that, if your level is selected, it can be seamlessly integrated into the full Pixels of the Past game.
Integration
At the conclusion of each year, all submissions will be reviewed by the development team. Levels will be assessed on their overall design quality, creativity, playability, and how effectively they honour the original Australian game. While all submissions are appreciated, only a curated selection will be formally integrated into the evolving Pixels of the Past project.
If your submission is selected, your level will be featured as an official part of the game, and you will be credited as a contributing designer. You’ll receive a confirmation email and further details about how your work will be incorporated into the published version of the game.
