Hello! You're on the Itch.io page for the 2023 InkJam, hosted by the Milwaukee School of Engineering Game Development Club.

This jam is inspired by the concept of "Inktober" where artists create ink-based drawings based on spooky prompts during the month of October. You can learn more about Inktober here:   https://inktober.com/

Any questions should be asked on the MSOE Game Development Discord Server, which can be accessed here: https://discord.gg/pwNYeqAegh

Rules for the Jam:

1. All submissions must have original art in black and white (or an equivalent monochrome color)

2. All submissions are due at 11:59 PM on the final day of their Jam Period

3. Nothing NSFW or overly inappropriate, just use common sense on this one, and if common sense isn't as common as I hope it is I'll just remove your game.

4. At least one of the members on the team has to be a student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering

5. All engines are welcome!

6. All submissions must match the theme of the week they're submitted for (Duh)

The Themes, and their respective Jam Periods:

PUMPKIN: (October 1st- 9th)

MOON: (October 1st- 16th)

DISGUISE: (October 1st- 23rd)

NIGHTMARE: (October 1st- 30th)

Here's the answers to a few questions you might have: What is a Game Jam?

Great question! Game jams are Video Game making contests, normally placed under a time limit. In other words, you have a set amount of time to make a video game, and your goal is to make it better than all the other people who are trying to make a game during the same time period, all competing for a prize

Why would I want to do a Game Jam?

Another great question! One major reason is for the fun of it, and some people do it for a chance to build their skills under a timed environment. If you're on the hunt for an internship, it also serves as a great opportunity to work on an Independent project, as there is not only a structure built around it, but there are also actionable rankings and you could list a winning game as such on your resume! How does the whole "Jam Month" thing work?

A "Jam Month" Is our solution to the busy life of a college student, as in the Jam Month there are four overlapping game jams! The first only lasts a week (from the 1st to the 9th) while the second one lasts two weeks (from the 1st to the 16th), the third lasts three weeks (from the 1st to the 23rd) and the fourth is practically the whole month! (the 1st to the 30th) This means that you can choose how long of a time period you want to work on your game, since all the themes are released at the beginning of the month, that means that you get to choose which prompt you want to target, and then submit it before the given due date. You're only competing against people in your given division, so the odds are fair, but if you don't want to rush a game in a week there's no need to do that either.
