Welcome to  MixJam 2025! πŸŽ‰

What is MixJam?

MixJam is a yearly game jam where it's all about generating 3 different prompts and implementing them into a game in interesting and innovative ways! To participate, you have to go to the MixJam Generator (link down below) when it’s open and generate three prompts. You can generate the prompts as many times as you want. Once you have found a mix of prompts that fits you and a potential game idea, make your game! How you interpret the prompts and how you will use them is up to you, as long they are used in some way! (story, mechanics, design etc.)

The generator has over 300 prompts that gets updated each year with new prompts. It features a "Hardcore mode", meaning that if enable, you can't switch individual prompts, you have to generate all 3 every time! It is for the jammer who wants the hardest challenge! This mode has no effect on the rating however, but some people just love that extra challenge!

IMPORTANT! πŸ‘‡

Once you submit your game, make sure to let us know the mixed prompts for your game, either take a screenshot of the generator and post the image or write it down in the description on your game's page!

TO GENERATOR

Before entering, you should know that your submission will be judged from different criterias and here they are:

  1. Prompts usage - Did you manage to use all the mixed prompts?
  2. Innovation -  Did the game use the prompts in a clever, interesting, new or innovative way?
  3. Fun - Games are all about fun! So is the game fun?
  4. Graphics - Show some love to the graphics!
  5. Sound - Rate the sweet tunes!

Additional rules and information

  • Any code/engine is allowed. We are encouraging you to export the game to HTML5 so that more people can play it!
  • You can’t start making the game before the jam starts. The generator opens within a few hours before MixJam starts.
  • You have to use 3 prompts for your game, which means that you can't use only 1 or 2. The game can't be the winner unless 3 is used!
  • The majority of the code must be made during the jam. Using any art, music and sounds that you have previously created before the jam is allowed. If you want the true jam experience, we’re recommending you to create everything from scratch once the jam starts!
  • If you are using public domain assets or similar, make sure you are allowed to use them. This is your responsibility!
  • You are not allowed to use copyrighted assets in your game! This includes art and music. This is also your responsibility!
  • The jam accepts no late submissions. It is highly recommended submitting early so that you don't accidentally miss the deadline. You'll still be able to update your game up until the deadline of the game jam, even if you submit early!
  • You can either work independently or be a team! If you don't have a team and want to be in one, feel free to post on the community page!
  • Submitters and contributors are the ones eligible to vote.
  • Games that contain mature/NSFW content or content that may be disturbing to others is allowed, just add a warning! Make sure you mark your game as NSFW, ideally in the game title using [NSFW] or in the thumbnail, so it is clear for all players. Also, you have to follow itch.io's guidelines, read about it here!

If you think that something can change, whenever it's the jam itself, the generator or prompts suggestions, tell me. I will read every suggestion.

Good luck !πŸ˜€
