megadungeon jam

An image that reads "megadungeon jam!" Above it is a cartoonish rendition of a map and two funny skulls on each side.

Hello! Welcome to the Megadungeon Jam! This was born out of a bit of a confession on twitter at one of my deeper design goals. I've always wanted to make a megadungeon but had never even attempted to endeavour at how to do so. It seemed many others felt the same, so here's a year-long opportunity to try your hand!

I have a few guidelines and rules, just to make sure that nothing slimy gets submitted to this jam.

First of all, this jam abides by the 9 Principles of SWORDDREAM, which are the following:

The 9 Principles of *DREAM

*DREAM stands against hate & prejudice in all forms. We seek to actively oppose bigotry & harassment in gaming communities. We create kind spaces. *DREAM works to be radically inclusive. We seek to support and encourage creators, GMs, players, and organizers from marginalized groups. And we seek to get better at this all the time. *DREAM encourages the use of sensible tools for communication and consent. *DREAM opposes harassment and strives for non-toxic discourse. We value best intentions, we call in before calling out, and we start discussions before we make accusations. We seek to empower everyone to curate their space. Above all, we engage sincerely.  *DREAM values creators & their work. We support equitable pay for professional creators and fair treatment for hobbyists. *DREAM values a DIY approach to creation. We question gatekeeping, we take alternative approaches when traditional publishing models fail, and we believe anyone can make great games.  *DREAM values experimentation in game design & worldbuilding. *DREAM isn't defined by, but is interested in: anti-canons, emergent story, generative worlds, kitbashing, non-violent play options, and more. And it's fine if some of these things contradict each other! There is no one *DREAM . Anyone who commits to these principles is *DREAMing .

Any entry to this jam that does not abide by these principles will be removed after careful deliberation.

Second, we allow submission of past works, no matter how old. Third, we encourage that you put a price tag on your megadungeon because you deserve good compensation after your hard work. Your pricing, however, is up to you! If putting a price tag on it makes you uncomfortable, we encourage making use of community copies. If you are unaware of how to make community copies, here is a handy guide. Please also make sure that if you hire anyone to assist you in any part of the dungeon that you are making that they are also properly compensated for their effort.

Fourth, if you find anything dubious about any of the submissions, please contact me, the host, as soon as you can and please do so in private. My twitter DMs are open.

Fifth, when you submit and talk about it on any social media, please do use the hashtag #MegadungeonJam so that I can easily find it and share it also! I would love to see what people cook up.

That is all! You have a whole year to go for it. If you have any general questions, feel free to ask em. Have fun!
