Hi friends! Welcome to ForTheKidsJam!

This is a beginner friendly Game Jam where the theme is "a game for kids".  This jam is all about creating fun, engaging, and imaginative games designed for kids! Whether it’s a colorful adventure, an educational puzzle, or a simple yet delightful experience, the goal is to craft something young players will love.  Maybe a multiplayer game so kids can play with a parent! Get creative and bring joy to the next generation of gamers!

Voting End Date: 5/12/25 (If voting by judges finishes early we will end voting early)

Rules

• You must select a target age range and write it in your gamepage description

• Your submission must run in the browser!
  • Some game engines do not allow export to a browser so please check 
• Be nice to each other!
  • Harassment of any kind on any of the platforms we will be using (itch, discord, etc) will result in a disqualification
• No extensions on the submission due date
• The discord itself has some rules (very similar to here) please be mindful in the discord as well
• No nudity or pornographic content
• No illicit drug content or references
• Your submission must run in the browser - just making sure you didn’t miss it at the top too
• You may play this game jam solo or in a team - but teams can only be up to 5 people.
• You may only use assets you have a license for

Community

We have a small discord server you all are welcome to join to find team members or to ask questions.  Please be kind to one another there too 

Voting

Voting will be done by Judges.  Make sure you make the games geared towards kids as our judges will be keeping kids in mind as they play!

Below you will find a short rubric for the criteria you will be judged on:

  • Would a child find this game entertaining?
  • Is this something the judges would recommend to a kid to play?

  • How well did this game implement every criteria listed above?

Requirements for submission

• Age range
  • On your itch game page you MUST submit your target age range.
  • The age range must be easy to find for the judges
    • We recommend the description of your gamepage containing your target age range
  • Age ranges you may select from:
    • 5-7
    • 7-9
    • 9-11
• Please make sure you are using a game engine that allows you to export to browser! <3 

Winner This Game Jam is beginner friendly and very chill.  While we are voting for a winner, really it is an accomplishment to just have a game created and submitted in this short time frame!  The game that is the winner in the “overall” category will be played on my Twitch Stream and linked in the discord channel.  Depending on how many submissions we have, I may play some other honorable mentions or even all of them if we are a small enough group!  Again, this is all just for fun and practice! I am by no means a big streamer. This is all just for fun :)
