As the nights grow longer and the sun hangs lower, the last of the harvest is reaped from the fields. It will be winter before long but there is time for one last celebration. A celebration to keep the cold at bay, to keep the harvest safe, and to keep those close from dying in the dark of winter...

The world forgets the trepidation that this time once held, and every year it drifts further from the traditions of old.

But in the quiet and forgotten parts of the world the old ways hold sway, and the traditions call for blood...

The Folk-Horror Game Jam will be a month-long celebration of haunted harvests and deadly folk traditions!

Theme

  • Create something that embodies "folk horror" to you. From dangerous, unchecked rural superstition to otherworldly horror wrapped up in a forgotten community. If you're just here for the aesthetic, that's fine too!
  • Some inspiration off the top of my head: The Wickerman, The Ritual, Noroi: The Curse, The VVitch, Midsommar or even the collected Grimm's Fairy tales.
  • This is not limited to a specific region or time period. Dig around local history or do some research and find something unique and creepy!

System and Game Type

  • Any system is accepted!
  • From Mork Borg, to The Wretched & Alone, or maybe even a brand new game you've been meaning to cook up!
  • As long as it falls into the theme, I want to see it.

Submissions

Submit as many entries as you want, and tweet them to @CharlieFergaves on twitter so I can share em'!

On Content Warnings

  • As a horror jam, exploring uncomfortable or upsetting themes in a mature and conscientious manner may be something you as a creator want to tackle. If this is the case, I implore you to provide content warnings to your submissions.
  • That being said: racism, fascism, transphobia and bigotry will not be tolerated and I reserve the right to ban such submissions.

So dig in, get spooky and have some fun this Halloween season!
