Welcome to the final game jam of the semester.

Theme

To be Announced

To celebrate the final few weeks, and to help prepare you for the next stage of your education, this game jam will be the focus of the last sessions. We will go through a pre production stage, version control setup and the production stage.

This is entirely voluntary but highly recommended

You will be judged on a few vital criteria:

  • Creativity
  • Fun factor
  • Design
  • Art

Version Control Setup

This stage will be done via demonstration, so that you know what you are doing with the version control (github) and can use it effectively. This will be especially helpful if you are teaming up. This will be done first so that everyone has a project setup and ready to go, and knows how to be able to work on it at home and at college.

Pre-production

During this stage, you will need to draw up a basic game design document that will line out your plan for the game. This won't have to include research, just the mechanics and aim for the implementation.

  • Mechanics and Systems
  • Art Style
  • Sound Design (optional)
  • Implementation Plan (optional)

This stage is planned to be only a day or two, but there are no hard schedules. If you get this done earlier, then great. If you need an extra day or two, then use that time you have left wisely.

The GDD will not be submitted, this is purely for your own scoping and planning.

Production

The main part of the game jam will take just over a week, or 7 in college days. You are more than welcome to ask me (Paul) for help when needed.

Rules (Totally not copied from Pirate Software Game Jam Rules)

  • This is not an exhaustive list. Don't be a dumbass. 👺
  • You must follow the Itch.io TOS.
  • No teams of more than 5 people.
  • Your submission must run in the browser.
  • If you do need to leave let your team know in advance.
  • Do not attempt to sabotage other teams.
  • Be cool to each other.
  • No AI-Generated Content.
  • No Pornographic Content or Nudity.
  • No Illicit Drug References.
  • You can only use assets you have the commercial license for. Some asset packs only allow non-commercial use. Make sure you know the licensing limits for anything you use. The intention is for you to build your own stuff and learn from it. Don't overthink this and try to find a way around it, just make things. The game jam is a flex of personal skill not personal wallet. -Zafaroth  Paul
