THIS JAM HAS ENDED. NEXT ONE: FEDIJAM IV
See #fedijam  for news!

Hi there and Welcome to the FediJam III !

Fairly, we have enough of spooky stuff already.
Data-vampires and wall-mounted eyes? Near-ubiquitous. Framing of innocent and routine tortures of various nature? Daily.

But! It is important to remain humans. To help and cheer up friends. To conquer fear with laughter. To create more joy and to create more freedom. Halloween exemplifies culture conquering ancient fears. And opensource tools and infrastructure exemplify people conquering waves of more real spooks.

Except for Itch itself, this Jam is organized using libre social platforms. And you are welcome there, too.
This time we try running for a whole week so that you have more time to overcome obstacles and to make your thing. But hopefully not enough to get sidetracked.
(Thanks for everybody's feedback and support!)

FediJam's name comes from the word Fediverse.

It is a term for a loose federation of thousands of small social servers running different free software, owned by anyone who chose to host them, but connected and acting as a single evolving platform. Sounds like scifi but it is real!
A bird's eye view of the current state of the network: https://fediverse.party/
An interactive map and an instance list: https://fediverse.space/

The goal of FediJams is to have fun and to share gamedev knowledge. Not only about ways to technically make opensource games, but about how to spread them in libre and ethical ways, too.
And to make new teams and new wonderful games!

## THEME

DEFEND YOUR LANDS (proposed by wholesomedonut)

## COMMUNITY

Since FediJams are about learning, sharing and teammaking, communicating is a big part of it.
And in FediJam, it takes place not only here in community section, but also in a federated Matrix room on a small server.
https://matrix.to/#/#fedijam:m.wfr.moe
m.wfr.moe is mostly a D programming language community. Big thanks to Jan Jurzitza (https://github.com/WebFreak001) for keeping it running!

This room accepts guests, you can attend even without an account. But if you want to have an account, a reminder that you can choose any Matrix server out there, not necessarily m.wfr.moe, and still join the room.
That's the beauty of federation. Matrix is like a decentralized opensource Discord, ( List of Matrix clients)

## RATING

  • Fun
  • Creative Use of the Theme
  • Originality

Rating stops at Oct 28 18:00 UTC. Rating is public.

## RULES

  • The game should be made during the jam.
  • Using premade assets (like sounds, models and textures) you have a legal right to use is ok.
  • Use free and opensource engines and libraries (see a list below!). This one is not enforced, but some people won't play your game if you don't.
  • Publish your sourcecode and include a link on your game page.
  • If your game has NSFW, mark it appropriately.
  • For non-web (downloadable) games, Linux and Windows versions are required. Mac support is complicated, cannot be required, but encouraged.
  • Have an unfinished/crappy game in the end? Submit! Would like to see it and you can collect the constructive feedback.
  • Have fun!

## NOTES & RECOMMENDATIONS

After submission ends, I will make posts with source code links (or repost you if you do it yourself). In the sources, try to provide instructions on how to compile (if needed) and run. You can add it after submission, it is just a recommendation so that more people can enjoy your wonderful game.

Cool libre engines and frameworks to use (non-exhaustive, propose your fav!):

Extra software:

  • Blender (3D modeling)
  • Krita (2D art, mainly for painting)
  • Gimp (2D art, mainly for editing)
  • Opentoonz (frame-by-frame [vector] animations. Quirky but can be beautiful)
  • Audacity (some simpler sound editing)
  • Goxel (Tip: voxelling your assets can be an order of magnitude faster than to use Blender)
  • SuperCollider (sound synthesis)

Some usable music is at https://open.audio/library/ce1fb6d4-fae6-464a-a34a-bdd46209ee82/.
Yes, Funkwhale is a federated music thing ^_^
Thanks https://mastodon.technology/@agateblue for both sharing this library and for Funkwhale itself, too!
