Fairly, 2021 is a great year to be a gamedev.
A lot of free and opensource tools to make a game with no strings attached, and sharing games is easy.
But as a gamedev and a FOSS nerd I want more than just that. I want sharing itself being as free and opensource as my tools!
This Jam is for creators using, primarily or as a complement, opensource social platforms, or the ones wishing to grow outside the tech giants' infrastructure.
FediJam's name comes from the word Fediverse.
It is a term for a loose federation of thousands of small social servers running different free software, owned by anyone who chose to host them, but still connected and acting as a single evolving platform. Sounds like scifi but it is real!
A bird's eye view of the current state of the network: https://fediverse.party/
An interactive map and an instance list: https://fediverse.space/
The goal of FediJams is to have fun and to share gamedev knowledge. Not only about ways to technically make opensource games, but about how to spread them in libre and ethical ways, too.
And to make new teams and new wonderful games, of course!
The theme is ELEMENTAL
Since FediJams are about learning, sharing and teammaking, communicating is a big part of it.
And in FediJam, it takes place not only here in community section, but also in a federated Matrix room on a small server.
https://matrix.to/#/#fedijam:m.wfr.moe
m.wfr.moe is mostly a D programming language community. Big thanks to Jan Jurzitza (https://github.com/WebFreak001) for keeping it running!
This room accepts guests, so you should be able to attend it even without an account. But if you want to have an account, a reminder that you can choose any Matrix server out there, not necessarily m.wfr.moe, and still join the room.
That's the beauty of federation. Matrix is like a decentralized opensource Discord, ( List of Matrix clients)
Rating stops at Oct 13 23:00 UTC.
After submission ends, I will make posts with source code links (or repost you if you do it yourself).
In the sources, try to provide instructions on how to compile (if needed) and run. You can add it after submission, it is just a recommendation so that more people can enjoy your wonderful game.
Cool libre engines and frameworks to use (non-exhaustive, propose your fav!):
Extra software:
Ask them in the community (here or on Matrix) or on Fediverse under #fedijam tag.
