What is a Game Jam?
A game jam is an event where participants try to make a game from scratch. Create your own card game, board game, role-playing game, or video game! You may use any theme, or challenge yourself and make a game inspired by our theme: "First Visit to the Library"
How do I submit my game?
Between November 1st to November 30th, your game can be submitted either online through our itch.io Game Jam page or in-person at the Azusa City Library during our operating hours. For more information on how to publish your game, click here: https://itch.io/docs/creators/getting-started
Submission Rules:
- All types of games are welcome: digital (Windows 10, Linux, Mac OS, and Android) or physical* (board games, tabletop games, etc.)
- No explicit content. Your game must be accessible for all ages. Please contact us if you have any questions
- Games must be free to play (When submitting the game under "Pricing", select "No payments").
- Participants can work independently or in teams. Your team can be of any size.
*If you make a physical game, please upload a PDF with rules on how to set up and run your physical game
Library Events for International Games Month:
- Game Workshop | Monday, November 7th 4:00pm-6:00pm | Stop by the library where we'll have supplies available for you to create your game for our Game Jam! Use our 3D printer, Cricut Machine, chromebooks, and more! For all ages, no registration required.
- Virtual Family Trivia Night: Nintendo Edition! | Wednesday, November 9th 5:00pm | Join us for our Family Trivia Night on Zoom! Think you know everything about Nintendo? Test your knowledge against other families to win the title of Family Trivia Champions! For all ages. Registration required. Register at azusaca.gov/civicrec.
- Bitsy Workshop | Thursday, November 10th 4:00pm - 5:30pm | Learn how to use Bitsy to create a pixel game! No coding experience needed! Recommended for ages 13 and up. No registration required!
- Board Game Night | Thursday, November 17th 4:30pm - 6:00pm | Stop by the library to play from an assortment of board games and card games in the Azusa Library Auditorium! For all ages, no registration required.
- Level Up at the Library | Friday, November 18th 2:30pm-4:30pm | Join us in the Azusa Library Auditorium for open gaming on our Nintendo Switches and VR headsets! Play from our game collection or try the VR experience. Recommended for ages 7 and up. No registration required.

- Ren'Py.org - A free visual novel engine that helps you use words, images, and sounds to tell interactive stories. Download required to use.
- GDevelop.io - A free and easy 2D game-making app. No coding experience needed! Download required to use.
- PBS.org - This article has step by step instructions on how to make a simple board game at home.
