This jam is now over. It ran from 2018-11-03 12:30:00 to 2018-11-04 21:30:00.

The Norwegian College of Fisheries Science is a department at a Norwegian university that offers a bachelor’s program in fisheries and aquaculture science. This is an interdisciplinary program, which means that over the course of three years, the students have to learn a mix of math, biology, chemistry, social science, fisheries technology, economics, and planning. After graduating, the students tend to start working in the fisheries and aquaculture industry, or fisheries management. Each year around 60 students start the program.

We want to help our students get a flying start as there are a lot of subjects and sub-departments they have to keep track of. What we want from this game-jam is some designs for a game that our new students will play in teams as part of their introduction week. This could be a reverse-escape room or scavenger hunt, or some other great framework that we haven’t thought of yet – but that you, game design professionals, probably have some ideas about.

One possible storyline is that the College’s building has been infested with a mutant fish that is eating concrete and thus destroying the building. It is up to the students to rally the different departments to contribute to how this problem can be solved. We are of course open to other storyline ideas as well.

The main constraints we think are in place are the following:
-Students should have to move between the different parts of the building (I will provide a map later, but this is a link to the interactive map).
-Students should do a combination of game tasks for team building and figuring out where to go for the next puzzle, but the different departments that they visit should also provide the students with some tasks to show what is special about their “part of the pie” in the program.
-The game should take around 3 to 4 hours.
