Creator's Campfire Writing Competition – Write 500 - Tower of Babel

Theme: Tower of Babel

Theme limit:   Burn Baby Burn: Campfire and Language of your Choice. Language as an incendiary device. (The theme is anything to do with the idea of fire, inspiration, campfire and community, sparking, inspiring, catching fire... can be positive or negative fire too, depending on what strikes you.)

Task: Write an entry in your favorite language in 500 words or less (≤ 500 words), incorporating the theme-limit into your concept.  Entries over 500 words will be removed at the end of the submission period.

The expansion and exposure of communication are the ideas behind this jam. Many of our discord server members’ first language is not English, and we are looking for a way to all enjoy that. This is a chance to show others your language and a chance to possibly glimpse some of the gems hidden in others’ lives. Feel free to include any aids to understanding your entry (a translation of your own, a link to an online translator you like, websites explaining cultural aspects of your entry…). English entries are also allowed. Express what you dare, understand what you may – this is Babel, baby.

We will be accepting suggestions for theme limits in a thread of our server’s #writing-chat channel. The most popular suggestions by poll will be incorporated into the limit.

Work alone or collaborate (credit collaborators).

The entry must be original work created during the jam period.

No NSFW or harassing works, please.

Submission on Itch.io: In Create a New Project, go to Details: Description and enter your text in the Description Window. (You may upload one cover image on the itch page to represent the project.)  You must enter your word count in the submission. If you wish to add an explanation about the process you followed, upload a separate document labeled process. This is where you can explain what you did and ask for feedback on how it came across to the readers. We encourage constructive feedback in the comments or on our server. Rating: The entries will be rated 1-5 stars by itch users in the following 3 criteria: Overall Creativity, Incorporation of the Theme Limit, Writing Quality. The top-rated submission wins a role on our Creator's Campfire server. You can encourage other people who understand your language to rate your entry, you can include translations, you can encourage people to use an AI translator. This is an adventure in multi-lingual communication.

You will have 10 days to write the entry and 6 days to rate entries.
