This month-long game-making contest is focused production of a Python command-line- or Pygame-based game of a chosen topic. The jam runs from January 31st, at Midnight Eastern Time, to February 28, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

All the info:

Who can enter? Anyone, of any age, from anywhere. You can work alone or in teams.

What is the theme? Classroom Drama

What can I make my game in? The game must be written in Python. Because we are judging this game based on not only its final version but also the code making up it, you must create an exe using Pyinstaller or similar, and submit a zip file of the source code. (the exe must be playable on Windows. The game may be Tkinter-, Pygame-, or command-line-based.

What assets can I use? The majority of code must be written during the jam, but you can use whatever art and audio assets you have the legal right to use.

Who will judge the games? Games will be judged by Python Coders and non-Python coders who have experience playing and critiquing games.

What will the games be judged on? Games will be ranked against the following criteria:

  • Originality
  • Fun-ness
  • Complexity
  • Code
  • Visual Appeal
  • Audio Appeal

More rules:

  • The game MUST be PG
  • You may participate in two jams at once if they happen at the same time and if your game fits both themes, you can submit it to both
  • Games submitted to this jam must not contain nudity, hateful language, or bad visuals such as gore.
  • You can support other platforms (such as Mac and Android) if you wish, provided there's at least one Windows build
  • You may re-use some small bits of code, such as controller support.
  • Save files, etc. may be used but only as .txt files
  • Use your best judgment, as mods will not be able to advise you on this.
  • You can use any pre-made art, fonts, sounds, etc. but make sure to say that you did so in your game's credits. Also in a LICENSE file. You'll likely get a poor rating in such categories, but only out of fairness for those who made what you didn't from scratch.
