Words & Pictures (W&P) is a comic jam hosted by Nen from Webcomics Hub. It's meant to be a celebration of our craft and a chance to let loose, challenge ourselves, or just create comfort comics for the sake of finding/re-finding your spark. Think of it like a comic contest but with less BS and more fun It's also a chance to win some cash, thanks to our sponsors:

Bam Comics are a new novel comic platform made for a more open and free-er comics space. They are also the sponsors of the Jam and the reason we even have a cash prize in the first place. Prizes

There will be 3 winning teams/individuals selected from the contest entries who will be able to win a cash prize, sent to them using Paypal or Wise whichever works best for.

• First Place: 250 USD
• Second Place: 150USD
• Third Place: 100USD

Winners are chosen by these metrics:

• Theme - How creatively you utilise the Halloween theme. Doesn't mean it has to be scary, it can be about a halloween party for gods sake. We're just looking for interesting takes on the theme

• Writing - This covers your scene direction, scene composition, dialogue and perceived narrative cohesion.

• Art - Character Art, Background Art, Colour Composition, Overall Design & Technical Proficiency

• Panelling & Lettering - Panel Layout and  how it impacts the flow of reading. All typesetting and lettering will be considered, no matter how small

• Audience Decision - This is the public voting category to count who has the most votes. Unlike every other category that is chosen by the judges

Rules

The rules are actually pretty simple:

• No Porn
• Team Size is infinite, from 1  - 1000000
• Please make sure that at least your dialogue is in english. I don't care the quality of your english, just do your best.
• You can use your OC's or existing established characters or locations. Just make sure the art is original, so no straight up screenshots
• NO AI (Both Writing AI and Generative Art AI is not allowed, Please Fuck Off)
• NO NFTs (Double Fuck Off)
• Typical expected, No hate content of any kind etc
• Feel free to use a pseudonym for your work if you wish to remain lowkey, just make sure you put a way to contact you in the "Contact" field.
• No Gratuitous Violence (I get it, there'll be violence/deaths etc, just don't want to see needlessly over-the-top violence that adds nothing to the story at all and is just there to be there)
  
• Just to be clear no IP is changing hands. I don't want your IP, I only want to look at it

Submission Guidelines

• Your comic must be related to the Theme
• For a page format comic it should be a maximum of 3 pages long
• For a scroll comic it should be a maximum of 25 panels long
• Your comic must adhere to the size restrictions in the image below. If you are making a page format comic the DPI should be about 300, for scroll you can do your usual 72 DPI you gremlins love so much.
  • After some requests from people joining, I've decided to allow A4 as an alternate page size, as a lot of european creators seem to have their templates for page formatted to that size. As a european I can't abandon the squad, call it favouritism cause it is.
• Please upload your comic as a JPEG so as to maintain quality and accessibility for all people. If there are multiple pages, put them in a folder and compress them if you need to
