This jam is now over. It ran from 2022-01-14 11:42:22 to 2022-02-14 07:42:04. View results
The aim of this jam is to bring together people with knowledge about UPBGE game development and encourage you to do your best to demonstrate the potential of this excellent engine, I want your help to increase the catalog of this amazing engine, which unfortunately has a catalog small, but can you help me change that, of your "bits and blood" in this competition and help us improve the catalog and show you what you are capable of doing within UPBGE, how far will you go? join my jam and go for it!!
The jam theme is: Survival Horrors Like 2010 - 2015 games
Between 2010 to 2015 there was a spike in simple horror games launched in the indie market, games inspired by the classic "Slender: The Eight Pages" our "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" the theme of this jam is basically to be inspired by the essence of these golden times and innovate, create new mechanics and creative, but keeping the theme of making a simple game, with a simple objective, innovating is important precisely because it was this genre that contributed to the saturation of our market, having until today games that literally copy what Slender was and relaunch in nowadays, of course we don't want to do the same, remember to create something new based on the theme to escape this negative stigma, basically your game should have the following elements to fit the jam theme:
Why did I choose this theme?
I chose this theme because Slender was the game that made me migrate from RPG Maker to 3D, it was the game responsible for my interest in 3D, and for having a well-focused industry, thanks to this game I work with Blender today and support myself doing what I love, and I'm sure it had the same impact on many other young people at the time, motivating us with the exciting idea of having the game played by a Youtuber and seen by millions of people, as slender did, Slender was a milestone in the history of video games, at the time everyone understood that they could create their own games by themselves, nowadays with the advancement of technology it's even simpler to be inspired by this game and improve your idea, I hope it's fun for everyone, and thanks for participating!
How to avoid performance problems in indie projects?
Most indie developers have problems with performance in their projects, most of these problems only exist because we tend to skip study steps when we haven't worked in the area yet, to avoid problems, treat assets correctly, learn UV Mapping, Bake the textures, use LOD, remove the collision of non-moving objects and add custom collision boxes, avoid unnecessary use of lamps, polish scripts to avoid unnecessary use of processing, put configuration menu in your game, customizing the resolution on weak machines already solves most of the performance issues, clean up unnecessary Keyframes and avoid shader abuse, but without a doubt the most common is Scaling UVs, avoid this by learning to bake your textures: how to bake: shorturl.at/wMY09 UV Unwrapping tutorial: shorturl.at/sLQV9, use the community tab if you have performance issues and I'll try to help you.
All games will be judged by judges of my choice (long-time developers on the engine), the criteria are:
The best project presented, guarantees 3 steam keys for the best horror games of all time: Outlast, Outlast 2 and Amnesia the dark descent
I haven't created a community yet, maybe I don't, as the purpose is to promote the engine's advancement, below are links from the UPBGE project itself, which are enough to clear any doubts about the engine.
