THEME:
"Running Up That Hill" OR "Master of Puppets"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78bX3HpRKVg
(If you use the song itself, include a disclaimer on your submission that this is being used for educational purposes and that you do not own any rights to the song etc. and will be glad to take it down on request.)
You may use any part of the theme: The song itself, the title, the lyrics. You may use literal interpretations or consider the themes--however, you must avoid submissions which would violate the student code of conduct.
You may use either of the two themes: You are not required to use both. You may use both if you wish. It is very cool to combine multiple aspects of the theme, but try not to go overboard to the point that the game becomes muddled--sometimes less is more, use your best judgement.
Rules and Guidelines:
0) CSC 355 Students: Remember to submit your supplemental video on Canvas in addition to submitting your game here. The supplemental video will be due two days after the game jam deadline. Check the assignment specification for details on Canvas.
1) CSC 355 Students: Must use the Unity game development engine for this jam.
2) You may not use paid-for assets (whether from the Unity store or otherwise). Only free assets allowed or things made by the jammers themselves. This is just to maintain balance for those who need to jam on the cheep.
3) Please cite the sources of any external assets you use which are not automatically cited on Unity Play / things that come directly from Unity Learn lessons, etc. Thank your sources!
4) Your game must be self-contained. If there are any alternative builds you wish to share, please make it clear which is the primary build being judged for the jam.
5) You may not simply modify an existing game / tutorial / microgame. It should not be a re-skin of an existing game with different art assets, for example. You may, however, use some smaller component from a tutorial such as the player controller script. Cite any such sources.
6) The Monarchy is up for grabs!
VOTING:
Voting will take place from the end of the jam until 12/6/22, 11:59 pm EST. Voting will be open to participants only for this jam, though anyone can play the games. Voting criteria for this jam are:
1) Gameplay: The game is fun to play and engaging.
2) Theme: The game creatively uses the Jam’s Theme.
3) Determination: You clearly challenged yourself both with your study leading up to this game and your execution in putting this effort on display.
4) Originality: Your game, while not necessarily defining a new genre, is still a fully original concept.
5) Environment Design: Quality of such things as art assets, level design, enemy design, placement and pacing of challenges. How well constructed are the paths of the game?
6) Personality / Story / Narrative: Quality of the characters, dialogue, plot, and other story elements of the game.
7) Game Feel: Does it "feel good" to perform actions in the game? Are controls responsive and satisfying? If there are sound effects, does this enhance the feel of the game?
8) Emotion / Mood: Whether due to sound effects, music, visual effects, dialogue, or otherwise, the game has an emotional impact
